I am happy to talk with you about how I work with clients and what to expect during our sessions. There is no obligation or fee for a phone consultation.
I feel it is essential to create a safe, supportive space where my clients may explore challenges while developing new insights and skills to move them towards positive solutions. I embrace a solution focused approach with an emphasis on small steps to achieve specific goals. In my work with clients, I take great strides to address the whole person, looking at each individual’s overall wellness and satisfaction in life.
I have more than 19 years of experience working with individuals and families from a variety of age ranges and backgrounds. I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree from New York University in 2003 and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New Jersey (44SC05283600) and New York (088138). In 2020, I completed credentialing as a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP) from Evergreen. If you would like to review my professional background further, I welcome you to view my LinkedIn profile.
I provide individual therapy sessions via video to adult residents of New Jersey and New York. I do not work with children or adolescents and do not provide marriage or couple's therapy.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking in the forests and state parks of NJ and NY, kayaking in slow moving lakes or rivers and camping with my life partner of over 20 years and hanging out with our cat, Pepper. I also love trying out new restaurants and spending time watching a good movie.

"Jennifer provides an accepting and calm atmosphere to her sessions. I feel that I am free to share anything that is on my mind. It is very encouraging to see that I am making progress on the goals we have set together."
After a change in insurance, I was anxious to begin work with a new therapist but Jennifer made the transition seamless through a caring and supportive environment. Jennifer's information gathering and sharing puts you into a relaxed mindset, ready to work on your goals."
"I wasn't sure how to make use of therapy. I simply knew that I wasn't happy and needed to do some work. Jen has been very helpful at coaching me along the way, helping me to identify areas that I was less clear about, and also working with what I wanted to bring to the sessions. The environment has been very supportive and caring. I feel like I have an ally and companion on this journey."
"When I started therapy, I was struggling with anxiety and hopelessness around several different issues, crying often, and considering quitting my job due to stress. I had had some unhelpful experiences with therapy in the past but continued to believe in its value, and when I started working with Jen I very quickly began to feel she could help me navigate my way out of this difficult time. She listens attentively and compassionately and never misses a thing. She has been encouraging when I most needed it and doesn’t hesitate to give gentle pushes when I am falling into unhelpful patterns. We have set goals that feel achievable, and with her encouragement I have made a great deal of progress. I am very grateful for our sessions."
"In my search for a counselor which took a very long time, I was happy to find someone like Jen Bame, who is getting me through some very difficult and stressful times. When searching for a counselor, I was looking for someone who shared similar ideals, is open to people with varied identities, is friendly, compassionate and not condescending. Jen fills all of these themes."
"I've been working with Jen for a number of months. She helped me through one big crisis, and lots of smaller everyday ups and downs. She listened and gave suggestions, asked for my input on what to focus on, and provided tools that will help me remain resilient in the years to come. I'm very grateful for her support and the daily check-ins to make sure I'm on track with my goals. Thanks for all the tools and tips, Jen!"
"Jen is great. She's helped me more then I could ever imagine ... I'll always be grateful for her help."
"Seeking therapy is highly stigmatized in my home country. I have sought therapy in the past but I have worked the longest time with Jennifer. I think we were able to grow a strong alliance and I feel safe sharing obstacles as I navigate through challenges associated with my multicultural identities as well as my other life stresses. I feel truly grateful for Jennifer's company!"
"Jen was an incredibly supporting and calming presence during our sessions. I felt like she did a good job at keeping me grounded, while also giving me the emotional support that i needed to work through my thoughts and feelings. Her voice is also very calming, which is personally something I find important when creating a safe and supportive environment. I feel like my ability to communicate and process my emotions has greatly improved over the course of this year, and I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking help!"
"I felt comfortable immediately with Jennifer. I never felt I was being judged. She always makes me feel better about myself and that there’s nothing I can’t discuss and overcome."
"My work so far with Jenn has been truly productive. A rapport of honesty and trust was created immediately between us that allowed me to lower my guard and, with gently probing questions and positive insights on her part, begin a process of self-exploration that has revealed truths about myself that I could not have identified on my own."
"Putting off therapy is a major mistake that I have made in the past. Working with Jen has been so helpful, especially in these times of constant stress. Her gentle approach has made all the difference for me. She really listens and pays attention to who I really am and who I am becoming."
"I came to therapy at a point of emotional and stressful crisis. I was struggling to manage my life after a series of changes and I needed help to regain my focus. I found that therapy was able to assist me in navigating out of my crisis and then provided me with tools for prevention."
"Jennifer was an absolute all start. When I started ... I was not so comfortable with sharing my feelings and opening up to people while letting them in. I was really dealing with a ton of internal problems which created a lot of hardship for me. Jen was able to guide me in the right direction and provide me with a set of skills and thought processes to help get through these challenges while also bettering myself as an individual. If you are looking for self growth and development, Jen can definitely help you out. She is a very kind person who understands the struggles but does not baby you just to make you feel better. She has your best interests in mind and I would highly recommend working with her."
